dEEpdARkTranCE
Consists of many members and symbolizes the eclectic styles of all members of our group. The three main people are EvinFloW(F. Levels), E.Glich(E. Brown) & hIGh cHiEF(D. Dockery) who are responsible for the majority of creation and production of music using electronics, computers and live instruments(mainly keyboards, guitars and drums). Many other members will appear in guest spots lyrically or behind the scenes in different genres of music and the goal is to have an influence of as many types of music and people as possible.
Why this name?
The name was chosen because of parties we used to DJ for hours on end with our own cuts, mixed with other trance and hardhouse music. It was always dark, the sounds and music were deep, and they always put our crowds into a trance.
Do you play live?
Only two live performances so far at Hollywood Canteen and Sunset Room, as well as many nights of DJ sets at the Calibar night club in Beverly Hills back in 2003 and 2004. All showcased some of our hip hop beats, hIGh cHiEF's rap skills, and Glich and DDT's trance, house and jungle sets. One of our biggest performances was at a private Halloween party in 2003 in Culver City in front of 1200 plus.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet allows anyone, who is interested, to display their musical talents and styles freely and openly to the public without hassle.
Would you still sign a record contract with a major label?
Depends on the label and offer. We want to make music not just to one day be discovered but to maintain our ability to be creative without being compromised, or pressured to cater to only a certain type of audience.
Band History:
Basically we have a musical family. I(EvinFlow) began to DJ at 13 when hip hop was beginning in the west coast with mixin and scratchin. Did some parties and breakdancing and got into the game doing school parties and a couple of guest spots at clubs. After moving to L.A., I met E.Glich, who was doing gangsta rap, djing and writing at the time, and later met hIGh cHiEF who was also writing rap, but mainly creating beats with instruments and various programs, which opened all of us up to the fact that we had one thing in common, to make the world dance..
Your influences?
All of us have different musical influences. Some are influenced by 70's disco, r&b(not necessarily motown) and funk, early 80's r&b(Cameo, Confunkshun, Lakeside, Clinton, Slave), new wave, classic rock, freestyle, early rap and hip hop especially(to gangsta and political of the 90's; BDP, NWA, Public Enemy, X Clan, PRT, etc.), jazz, fusion, world and classical. For the influence of electronica, we include early house, acid, hip house, techno, trance, ambient, etc. We like it all and we'll make it all.
Favorite spot?
So far Los Angeles, Miami, New York City and some other remote places in California that are special to us.
Equipment used:
When we use electronics we use a Roland XV-3080, Quasimidi Technox, Novation Drumstation, Casio MiniMidi Keyboard, Roland TR-909, Alesis DM-PRO, E-MU XL-1, ProTools, Fruity Loops Studio, Cubase VST, Reason and others if necessary
Anything else...?
Due to the support of everyone, we have two songs that have hit number 1 on sub charts after only two months on and many other songs in the top 10 between all of our crew. Don't really know how the charts work or what significance it has but it can't be bad since we started in the 300's, 400's, 700's and beyond that. The point is we thank all of you for any past, present and future support that has been received.
Our new album Synergetic Vol II, which is a compilation CD highlighting many groups covering various genres of music, will be on sale in a couple of months, and two songs from the CD are being previewed on DeepDarkTrance's and EvinFLoW DDT's sites.
